Congratulations to Abbie and Bish at the Golden Cross for being voted Pub of the Season for Winter 2025. A presentation took place on Tuesday 6th January, by Steve Salter. The Golden Cross is one of two remaining pubs left in the village; the other we all know. The building as it stands, is believed to originally be a farmhouse. The first known record of it being a pub is from the 1841 census. The building has undergone many changes over the years, and has seen numerous landlords. The present landlords, Abbie and Bish, have worked hard to breathe new a new life into the Cross. They have warmly welcomed new and old customers, and transformed the range of ales from one to a permanent HPA and two rotating ales, also with Cask Marque accreditation. Their hard work has started to pay off and real ale sales have outgrown most other sales. But as we all know, the ales are only a part of a successful pub. Since taking over they have reintroduced the Friday coffee morning, formed darts and pool teams, promoted live music, held numerous charity events, bingo and weekly quiz to name but a few. We wish Abbie & Bish all the success for the future.
