Taken on by new owners in May 2018, this 18th-century village pub re-opened in April 2019 after extensive refurbishment and offers a warm and friendly welcome to villagers, walkers and other visitors. It now features stylish decor and furnishings, while tables in the L-shaped bar and restaurant areas accommodate increased numbers of diners to enjoy an enhanced food menu which includes vegetarian options (vegan also available if ordered in advance). As well as real ale, an interesting range of wines and gins is on offer. The Chequers is easily found on the A422 in Ettington, between Banbury and Stratford-upon-Avon. There is level wheelchair access to the restaurant, but not to the bar or toilets.
